More suggestions:
Little Free Libraries. The public libraries are closed, but a number of spots in Beaver County have curbside, help-yourself mini libraries with books ready to borrow, 24/7.
One of the more popular ones is at College Avenue in Beaver, around the corner from the Starbucks. Other locations include 498 Fourth St. in Patterson Heights, Blackhawk Intermediate School’s playground; 173 Taylor Ave., Beaver; P.J. Caul Park in Ambridge; the corner of Franklin Avenue and Main Street, Aliquippa; 234 Beaver Ave., West Aliquippa.
Redbox. Can’t find any worthwhile movies on your TV? Well, Redbox outlets throughout Beaver County invite you to rent a film or two from their do-it-yourself kiosks.
Outside kiosks are at the Beaver Super; the New Brighton Foodland; CVS Pharmacies in Aliquippa, Ambridge and Hopewell Township; the Giant Eagles in Rochester and Chippewa Township; Walgreens in Rochester and Chippewa; Dollar General in Beaver Falls; and Kuhn’s supermarket in Hopewell.
Indoor kiosks include the Giant Eagles in Franklin Township, Hopewell and Northern Lights shopping center; Shop ’n Save in Ambridge; and Wal Marts in Economy, Center Township and Chippewa.
Music channels. Comcast TV customers get free, commercial-less music channels, tailored to meet most tastes. It’s nonstop pop, indie, rap, classic rock, R&B, alternative, soft rock, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, Y2K, dance, kids, gospel, reggae -- whatever you like. Trivia factoids and multiple photos of each featured artist give your eyes something to gaze at, too.
Podcasts. Choose from a plethora of local ones, like the Eric McKenna Project, featuring the WBVP-WMBA on-air host interviewing local musicians, or the Drinking Partners, co-hosted by Beaver’s Day Bracey, and focused on craft beer culture.
Board games. C’mon, they’ve been waiting there for decades in many a basement or attic. So dust off an old board game and gather round the family for some low-tech fun.
After a half-hour of Battleship, Booby Trap or Monopoly, today’s kids might fully appreciate how great they have it with video games.
Or buy a brand new board game. Castle Toys and Games in Beaver is now offering toy and game deliveries and curbside pickup. Place orders online at castletoysandgames.com or by phone at 724-775-5067.
