BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A powerful winter storm is delivering severe weather across the Deep South after dropping snow along the Mexican border and paying a violent visit to New Orleans. One person was killed and another injured when high winds destroyed mobile homes near Demopolis, Alabama. The storm also dropped snow in El Paso, Texas, and pea-sized hail in New Orleans, where winds blew scaffolding onto cars, injuring one person, and shattered glass in revolving doors. It caused flooding in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and flood watches remained in effect in Georgia, where rains fell through the night. Winter storm watches remain in effect from the upper Midwest to New England.
