If you're like most people, your first job after college probably didn't involve one of the most distinguished programs in the entertainment industry.
Charlotte Blain is not like most people.
After graduating from Salisbury University in May, Blain now works as a production assistant for "Entertainment Tonight" in Los Angeles.
"Ever since I was little, I have just been so fascinated and interested in anything that has to do with the entertainment industry," Blain said. "It's just always been a passion of mine."
Blain juggles several pre- and post-production responsibilities. When she's not scouting for potential content, she transcribes live interviews from premieres or red carpets.
A production assistant's work is often fast-paced and usually involves working long hours. Blain must organize digital material so it's easily accessible to producers and directors.
"Entertainment news is 24/7, so they need people early in the morning and late at night," she said.
One of the greatest perks of her job, Blain said, is the opportunity to meet Hollywood celebrities.
Blain recently met Kate Flannery, the actress who played Meredith on "The Office," on set.

Originally from Danbury, Connecticut, Blain relocated to the Eastern Shore in 2015 to attend Salisbury University. There, she obtained a bachelor's degree in communications, with a focus on public relations and strategic communication. She also minored in Spanish and business administration.
Some of Blain's most notable college experiences include holding a leadership position in her sorority, Delta Gamma; interning with public relations firm ICR Incorporated; and completing a practicum through the university's public relations office.
There, she met public relations specialist Megan Baker, who she described as one of her greatest mentors and a close friend. Blain attributes her success not only to her family, friends and mentors, but also to every person in her life.

"Everything that has happened to me in my life has just led me here ... I am such a believer that everyone that I've met up until this point has had a role in where I am at right now," she said.
Haven Simmons, Salisbury University associate professor of communications arts, referred to Blain as an "excellent" student, adding that he recognized her potential immediately.

"It's fantastic to know that one of my students has done so well," Simmons said. "I have always told my students that there is a tangible correlation between hard work at the university and success in the real world. Charlotte is a testament to that."
Simmons also noted his surprise at learning that Blain landed such a high-profile job so soon after graduating.
"We have a lot of students who head out to California with hopes and dreams, and things don't always pan out. In her case, not only did they pan out, but they panned out really fast," he said.

Blain has met fellow SU alumni living in the area who have helped California feel like home to her.
"I feel so lucky because I've felt so welcome in so many areas of my life out there — from strangers who didn't know me to people that I now consider close friends," she said.
As for future goals, Blain hopes to pursue music, star in a role on camera and leverage her connections within the entertainment industry.
When asked whether Los Angeles is everything she hoped for, Blain replied, "I can't imagine anywhere else."
