SANTA FE, N.M. — One of the hottest tickets in town also happens to be the name of a real estate company, but we’ll trust the Keller Williams faithful will find their way to Meow Wolf on Friday, Nov. 22, to see the man who personifies the term “independent artist.”
Williams burst on to the indie rock scene in 1994 with his first album, “Freek,” and has since produced a stream of albums with one-word titles. His latest effort, with the Keels, is called “Speed,” and will be released the day of the Meow Wolf show.
Keller and the Keels – singer/guitarist Larry Keel and his wife, singer/bassist Jenny Keel – all originally hail from Virginia. “Speed” is their third collaboration and according to Williams’ website, the album is performed in their “trademark Psychedelic Appalachian Bluegrass” style.
Williams has attracted a cult-like following for his live performances. He is known for creating samples on the fly in front of the audience, a technique called live phrase sampling or looping.

2019 FRANK MORGAN TAOS JAZZ FESTIVAL: If you love the sax, you won’t want to miss this four-day event, which pays homage to the late Frank Morgan, a Minneapolis native whose career as a jazz saxophonist spanned more than 50 years and who lived in Taos for a time.

The Grace Kelly Quartet’s tribute to Frank Morgan at the Harwood Museum of Art on the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 23, is already sold out. However, tickets are still available for Kelly’s electro-jazz-pop “Joy Party” that night at 7:30 p.m. at Taos Mesa Brewing Mothership. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
Kelly, 27, became Morgan’s protégé when she was just 13, and according to the Taos Jazz website, she fell in love with Taos when she began working with Morgan.
The festival, which is sponsored by the Taos Jazz Bebop Society, kicks off with a free party on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Taos Inn from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. featuring Alex Murzyn and the Pete Amahl Quartet.
The headliner on Thursday, Nov. 21, is the George Cables 25th Anniversary Quartet, which will perform at 7 p.m. at the Taos Community Auditorium. Tickets are $25, or $20 for members of the Taos Center for the Arts and Taos Jazz Bebop Society. To reserve tickets, call 575-758-2052.

Susan Latham
A conversation with artist Susan Latham will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Evoke Contemporary gallery at 1614 Paseo de Peralta, sponsored by UNM Fine Arts among others. Latham will discuss knots found in nature, and how she integrates science and art in the creation of fiber knot sculptures and jewelry designs.
A retired occupational therapist, Latham is the co-founder of SciArt Santa Fe, a nonprofit focusing on art and science integration, and is a local organizer of Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous (LASER) gatherings that bring artists, scientists and the public together.
Admission to Wednesday’s event is free, but donations are accepted. Registration is encouraged at bioculturasantafe.com. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
