Season five of Black Mirror is coming to Netflix on June 5th, and you can watch the first trailer for the show right now.
As ever, the anthology series will focus on questions regarding technology, society, and our understanding of ourselves. (Themes best encapsulated — and parodied — by the phrase “what if phones, but too much.”) The trailer shows tantalizing glimpses of a number of stories, including what looks to be a live-streamed public break down, and a young schoolgirl who receives encouragement from a social robot to become a pop star.
Season five of the show will contain just three episodes, but Netflix and Black Mirror’s producers seem to have attracted a great deal of talent to compensate. According to Variety, actors for this season include familiar faces like Anthony Mackie, Andrew Scott, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, Nicole Beharie, Angourie Rice, and — yes — Miley Cyrus. Variety says Cyrus seems to be taking part in a “meta storyline,” portraying a performer who’s “undergone a transformation in order to rise to a higher level of fame.”
The new series comes not longer after Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, an interactive choose-your-own-adventure show which launched December 28th last year.
